it is not death that I fear
for that is the unknown and brave horizon
where my spirit will rest
my fear lies in life
that finite essence
an endless battleground
between control and submission
I could shelter my soul
keep it from the storms
that threaten to pull me apart
instead I let it fly
through violent winds
lightning and hail
that tear and sting
and remind me who I am
yet as in all things
these tempests pass
fire breathes rebirth
with tenderness it’s nourished
from this I grow
find strength anew
and for a moment
am fearless
